Yockey's Call for European Unity

Francis Parker Yockey wrote The Enemy of Europe in the early 1950s as a shorter, more polemical companion to his magnum opus, Imperium. Where Imperium is an 800-page philosophical treatise, The Enemy of Europe is a political pamphlet. Yockey's argument is blunt: postwar Europe has been occupied, not liberated, and the occupation is cultural as much as military. He identifies America and the Soviet Union as twin threats to European civilization, though his sharpest criticism is reserved for what he calls the "culture-distorting" influence of liberalism and cosmopolitanism.

Context and Controversy

Yockey wrote this text while living as a fugitive, moving between Europe and the Americas, pursued by the FBI. He would be arrested in 1960 and die in a San Francisco jail cell under circumstances that remain disputed. The text is raw, urgent, and uncompromising. It reads like the work of a man who believed he was running out of time. Whatever one thinks of Yockey's politics, the book is a primary document for understanding the postwar European radical right and its intellectual lineage from Spengler forward.
