Yockey's Philosophy of Western Civilization

Francis Parker Yockey wrote Imperium: The Philosophy of History and Politics in Brittas Bay, Ireland, in 1948, publishing it under the pseudonym Ulick Varange. The book is an 800-page attempt to construct a total philosophy of history in the tradition of Oswald Spengler. Yockey takes Spengler's cyclical theory and pushes it further, arguing that the West is a single cultural organism with its own destiny, currently in a state of crisis brought on by liberalism, materialism, and what he terms "culture-distortion."

Scope and Reception

The book covers the nature of culture and civilization, the organic theory of the state, the relationship between politics and war, the philosophy of law, and the question of race as a spiritual rather than biological category. Yockey dedicated the work to "the hero of the Second World War," a dedication that ensured it would never receive mainstream academic attention. It has circulated instead through underground channels for seventy-five years, read by those who take Spengler seriously and want to see where a younger, more radical mind took the argument.
