Christianity as a Fighting Faith

Giles Corey's Sword of Christ is a sustained argument that Christianity, properly understood, is not a pacifist religion of personal salvation alone but a civilizational faith that obliges its adherents to defend their nations, their families, and their cultural inheritance. Corey writes against what he sees as the denatured Christianity of the post-World War II era: the megachurch consumerism, the therapeutic self-help gospel, and the theological liberalism that has, in his view, hollowed out Western Christianity from within. The book is a polemic, and it reads like one. Corey is not interested in balance.

The Argument Against Passivity

The core of the book is a historical and theological survey of Christian militancy from the early Church through the Crusades, the Reconquista, and the wars of religion. Corey draws on Church Fathers, medieval theologians, and political theorists to argue that the modern Christian reluctance to engage in political struggle is a historical aberration, not a theological norm.
